GAB Architects

GAB is an architectural practice founded by Emre Gürsoy and Barış Başat in 2014, with offices in Istanbul, Bucharest, and Stuttgart.

The practice focuses on delivering high-performance, efficient, and context-driven architectural solutions, with a strong emphasis on technical excellence and buildability.

The partners bring extensive experience across a wide range of project types, including master planning, data centers, industrial facilities, universities, office and mixed-use developments, as well as educational buildings and airport terminals.

GAB has delivered multiple mission-critical data center projects in Turkey for leading financial institutions and major telecommunication operators. In parallel, the practice has completed large-scale developments such as a 300,000 sqm university campus and an industrial production facility for a Japanese company in Manisa.

Beyond design, the partners have strong backgrounds in construction site management and design management, allowing GAB to operate effectively from early concept stages through to execution and delivery.

With a solid track record in sustainable design, GAB has also contributed to EU-funded research initiatives, including the NEED4B project.

Founding Partners

Barış Başat

Barış has born in İstanbul in 1977. He has graduated from Cağaloğlu Anatolian high school in 1995 and from Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture in 2000 and joined to B-Design. He has become the master degree in 2006(ITU). He has worked as a project coordinator between the Istanbul and Bucharest offices of B-Design between 2005 and 2008. Until 2017 he worked on the educational, residential and commercial projects in B-Design/Istanbul as a managing partner. He has been invited as a guest lecturer and jury member at ITU (Istanbul Technical University). He has founded GAB with Emre Gursoy in 2017.

Emre Gürsoy

Emre has born in İstanbul in 1978. He has graduated from Pertevniyal Anatolian high school in 1996, from Trakya University Faculty of Architecture in 2001 and joined to B-Design in 2005. He has worked as a design manager and director Bucharest office of B-Design between 2008 and 2010. until 2017 he worked on the educational, residential and commercial projects in B-Design/Istanbul as a managing partner. He has been also working as project manager in NEED4B (new energy efficient demostration for buildings ) project, which is a collaborative project co-financed by the European Union under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), since 2010. He has founded GAB with Barış Başat in 2017

Esra Emir

project partner / Germany

Esra Emir studied architecture and engineering at the University of Stuttgart and graduated in 2012 with several awards. She is studying on PhD thesis and multidisciplinary researches at the Bauhaus University Weimar since 2017. She worked for various international architecture offices and involved in many areas from exhibition to urban planning and international competitions. In 2020, she started to collaborate as a freelance project partner with GAB Architects.
